Early life and musical beginnings
I was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, and moved with my family to Richmond, Virginia, when I was 12. At 16 I picked up my first guitar with a single purpose: learn to play “Fade to Black” by Metallica. That first riff hooked me — it was the moment music stopped being background noise and became the way I understood the world.
How music shaped me
Learning guitar opened doors I didn’t know existed. It taught me patience through slow practice, courage through performance, and connection through collaboration. Over time I explored other styles, taught friends, and helped beginners find their footing. The more I taught and played, the more I saw how access — instruments, lessons, mentorship — made the difference between a passing interest and a lifelong passion.
Why I started Free Music Academy
Free Music Academy was created to remove barriers. The goal is simple and focused: make music accessible to all by providing instruments and lessons for free. Whether someone is picking up an instrument for the first time or returning after years away, the Academy offers resources, instruction, and instruments so financial or geographic limits don’t stand in the way.
